Happy Monday folks!
Last night was a major milestone for me.
For the first time since April 1, 2009, I got back on the tennis court and was hitting balls! May not sound like a big deal, but this is *huge* to me. April 1 is the last time I played tennis. The day I re-tore my ACL and both meniscus, thus landing me in surgery later that month. Thus the gripes about the knee, the rehab, etc etc etc.
I still remember how it felt lunging for the ball, knee twisting and popping, and then, of course, me in a crumpled heap on the ground. I remember the absolute agony of the first week after surgery.
Those are things I *never* care to re-create, so the fact that I “woman-ed up” and faced the court again was a major accomplishment for me. It would have been easy to say “oh I can do some other exercise” and never picked up the racket again. There are other sports that are a lot less physically demanding, and I know that.
But I like tennis. No, I love tennis! And not just ‘cuz tennis is a sport filled with hotties.
(R-Fed? Rafa? Roddick? Yes please!)
It is a wonderful time where Hubby and I can relax, exercise, and spend time together. And let’s be real, it’s kind of gratifying when you smash a forehand down the line!
For he and I, it’s a great break from our hectic day-to-day life.
Granted, I’m not really moving around the court as much as I’d like, and I’m not lunging for Hubby’s laser-beam shots in the corner, but it’s progress.
I go back to see the Surgeon on Wednesday morning, so I will look forward to finding out what I can be doing to regain my agility and get myself more stable.
Now, off to do some physical therapy. Weeeeee!!
The Novel Is Out! So What Next?

I saw my best friend have the same thing happen on the tennis court when we were in college. So I completely think you rock! Getting back out on the court must have been a bit scary....
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're back on the court. It really is a great game, isn't it? Take care not to injure yourself.
