Sweetness!

It’s been a very successful week, all in all. I committed myself to reaching my WW goal by July 1, which would be just about 1 pound per week until then. I am tracking EVERY bite that goes in to my mouth, trying to move more (as much as the knee will allow without giving out!), and focusing on healthy, filling foods instead of what is convenient.

Bitch Cakes has an amazing post today on reframing the way we think about certain foods, and also about artificial sweeteners in many of the food products we eat.

I struggle greatly with the artificial sweetener issue. I am a diet-soda junkie, have a “light” yogurt most mornings, and consume plenty of other products that contain aspartame, sucralose, HFCS, etc. I want to make a conscious effort to be more aware of these ingredients, and hopefully start phasing them out of my diet. I know I’m in for a rude awakening when I head to my pantry and the grocery store later this evening.

Side-note story:
Last night I went to dinner with one of my good friends at Olive Garden. (dun dun dunnnnnn) As a self-professed carb-o-holic, this is like Temptation Island for me.

I went online to research points values, and had a menu picked out in my head: Linguine alla marinara (put ½ in a to-go box as soon as delivered), salad with dressing on the side (no cheese), and 1 breadstick. But, of course, the linguine alla marinara was nowhere to be found on the menu. I’m sure they probably could have whipped it up, but it didn’t instill confidence in me. What if the portion was huge? What if they’ve changed the recipe for the sauce, and it will be more points?’ So…I went with the salad, minestrone soup, and 2 breadsticks.

I was *so* proud of myself. Instead of giving in to the chicken alfredo, pizza, or stuffed mushrooms, I made the healthier choice. Do you get excited over little ‘mini-victories’ like this?

Anyway, wishing everyone a healthy, on-plan weekend!

  1. I hate it when that happens ! Your all set with what you're going to order and something unexpected throws a wrench in it ! Good for you for rollling with it and finding an alternative !!!!!

  2. Hey! i've been meaning to comment on this post. Your Olive Garden food choice was not a "mini-victory" it was a HUGE victory! Reaching your health goal is not something that comes from one big decision on one particular day, it's about those little day-to-day choices that all add up! I am so proud of you!
